These (Dis) Empowered Animals are made from neckties worn by my father that span the 35 years of his career in business. Each of these deadly snakes comes with their own individual(ist) calling card that offer fair warning as to where their intentions lie and how they are empowered by free market capitalism. All of them are hand-sewn and given women’s earrings, buttons or cufflinks for eyes. Most are filled with stuffing, plastic bean-bag pellets or both (enhancing their snakey-feel), but some have other things in them too, like a foam house (mid digestion) or in one case, a snorkel!
SEVEN DEADLY SNAKES was originally commissioned by the Textile Museum of Canada’s shop in 2011, nestled in between market crashes 1 and 2. In other news: capitalism continues to be a dangerous farce, and I still have more ties! To purchase a deadly snake, design your own by picking from one of the collection of neckties, cufflinks etc., inquire more about soft sculpture commissions or share a giggle about the failure that is capitalism, please CONTACT ME
